Arfé 2009 International Coffee Painting Exhibit in Seattle, WA

Seattle will be the host of what we hope will become the First Annual International Coffee Painting Exhibit. Directed by Ezju, Arfé 2009 will Bring together many of the top coffee artists in the world, Ezju hopes to generate a more serious view of this controversial medium.

Over ten coffee artist have been contacted with works ranging from paintings to relief sculptures.

The idea for Arfé 2009 grew out of Ezju's coffee culture shows over the past 4 years. The theme has been world cultures as they relate to and are influenced by the coffee industry. A frequent question was "What and original idea, is there anyone else painting with coffee?" After some research it was discovered that there were others using coffee as a medium with visions varied from artist to artist. While he has been having a great deal of success with his multi-faceted coffee culture series Ezju realized that what he was presenting was one persons perspective from one culture. Arfé 2009 was conceived to take this concept to the next level. Multiple cultures viewed by multiple artists perspective from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.

With the world getting smaller every day it came as no surprise to me when I learned Prof. Francisco Rivera was putting together a show in Puerto Rico with a similar concept. After inviting him to participate in Arfé 2009 he invited the entire exhibit to join his show afterwards.

Over a dozen coffee artist have been contacted with works ranging from paintings to relief sculptures.

Arfé 2009 Goals

  1. To increase global awareness of artwork made with coffee and the artists who use coffee as an artistic medium.
  2. Bring together world cultures and promote intercultural awareness through an uncommon artistic medium that is also the world's second largest legal industry (something almost everyone can relate to on some level).
  3. Increase the credibility of coffee as an artistic medium.
  4. Show political, moral and popular trends of the coffee surfeit in our culture and the juxtaposition of other cultures.
  5. Increase the credibility of food as an artistic medium.
